French punctuation: semicolon

Semicolon

The semicolon makes it possible to separate independent propositions that nevertheless have a logical relationship with each other. There is no capital letter after the semicolon. The pause in the spoken word is less marked than with the period.

Il a de la chance ; il s'est mis à neiger pour les sports d'hiver.

The semicolon is either separated by two spaces one before and one after, or it is directly attached to the last word with a space after.
