Hiberner and hiverner
"Hiverner" (to winter) simply means "spending the winter" whether in a region or in a shelter. As for "hiberner" (to hibernate), even if it takes on the meaning of spending the winter, it means "spending the winter in a state of hibernation", i.e. in a lethargic state where the body temperature drops in order to spend the winter using the minimum amount of energy. This is used for animals that spend the winter in this way: dormice and marmots for example.
It should be noted that some people consider the bear to be a hibernator but it is not a hibernator. In fact, although heart rates slow down, the bear's body temperature remains relatively stable and it can be easily awakened. Bears are semi-hibernants.
