Verbs in -e(.)er
A verb in -e(.)er means all verbs other than those ending in -eler and -eter that have other particularities.
Verbs like élever (to raise), peser (to weigh), soulever (to lift)... change the e of the penultimate syllable to è before a final syllable that is silent (i.e. not pronounced) even in the future tense and the conditional tense.
j'élève ==> the last e is not pronounced, so we put a grave accent è
nous élevons ==> the syllable following the e is not mute, so there is no grave accent è
j'élèverai ==> this also applies to the future
Verbs in -é(.)er
A verb in -e(.)er means all verbs with an é followed by one or more consonants and ending in er.
Verbs like accéder (to access), considérer (to consider), régler (to regulate), tolérer (to tolerate)... change the é of the penultimate syllable to è in front of a final syllable that is silent (i.e. not pronounceable) except in the future tense and conditional tense.
je cède ==> the last e is not pronounced, so we put a grave accent è<
nous cédons ==> the syllable following the e is not mute, so there is no grave accent è
nous céderons ==> this also applies to the future
