Spelling
m in front of m, b et p

In front of letters m, b et p, n becomes a m.

- un champignon
- une lampe
- un embarquement
- emmener
- encore

Like any rule in French, there are exceptions (often derivatives of bon): bonbon (sweet), bonbonne (carboy), néanmoins (nevertheless)

The most amusing exception remains the double exception of embonpoint (stoutness) which changes the n to m in the first syllable but not the second.

  • In front of letter m, b et p, n becomes a m.

m devant m, b et p
